How does the planning process work?
It is best to start with a phone call – it is the most efficient way for us to get to know each other and for us to share information with you about all of the considerations that go into planning an unforgettable safari. We encourage you to call us at 802-222-6320 at a time when you can dedicate a few minutes to an introductory call.

In our first communication we’ll discuss your safari dreams, possible destinations that will best match your interests, who you are traveling with, preferred dates, and your travel budget. We’ll then work up a proposal and answer your questions.
Once we have your arrangements provisionally held, you can confirm your safari with a 25% non-refundable deposit. Final payment is due 90 days prior to departure.
How far in advance should I start planning?
The very nature of nature tours and safaris is that the regions we are exploring are often raw and undeveloped. This typically means smaller camps and lodges in prime areas, that can fill many months ahead of time. For this reason, we suggest planning at least a year in advance – and more if you will need more than one room for family and friends. That said, if you have some flexibility, we are always happy to hear from spontaneous travelers – just get in touch as soon as you are able.
What is included in your pricing?
All pricing is in USD, and in general, will include the following:
- Private ground transportation beginning and ending at your point of entry to/exit from your destination
- Light air transfers (aka bush flights) if applicable
- Accommodations
- All meals and drinks in safari camps; breakfast in city/in town hotels
- Expert local guides
- Twice daily (or full day) safari activities
Our prices do not include:
- International airfare or regional commercial flights (we have resources to assist you with this if you like)
- Passport and visa fees
- Optional gratuities for guides and camp staff
- Pre-travel inoculations/travel medications
- Trip cancellation insurance — highly recommended.
Do I need travel insurance?
Travel insurance is strongly recommended, but not strictly required for most safaris. However, you should know that cancellation policies are quite strict.
PATH+PLAIN will provide a quote for Travel Insurance at the time of booking.
Can you book my flights?
At PATH+PLAIN, we do not book long haul international airfare in-house, but we do have excellent resources to assist you. For regional airfare to connect the various destinations once on your trip, we can book those for you, or you can make those part of your international ticket. We book all non-commercial bushflights and charter flights in house as part of your trip cost.
Will I need immunizations for my trip?
Please bear in mind that PATH+PLAIN is not a medical authority, and recommendations by a physician will be based on your personal tolerance for risk, medical history, and other factors. The bottom line is that we suggest you discuss your itinerary with a travel health professional at your earliest convenience.
Most countries do not require specific immunizations for entry, but there is a basic battery of recommended immunizations for travel to developing countries (things like typhoid, hepatitis, etc) and some updates to childhood immunizations (such as polio) that may be suggested by a travel clinic. Some countries will require evidence of Yellow Fever inoculation to enter, depending on where else you may have traveled prior to arriving.
If your adventure will take you into malaria risk areas, you’ll want to talk to a travel clinic about malaria prophylaxis as well.
