A land of spectacle and scale.
While Tanzania’s vast plains host one of nature’s most extraordinary events – the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra across the Serengeti – Tanzania is so much more. The essence of wild Africa is found here: raw, cyclical, and awe-inspiring.
Beyond the Serengeti, a safari in Tanzania might find you exploring the Ngorongoro Crater’s dense wildlife, hiking to hidden calderas to find pink flamingos bathing in soda lakes, visiting one of Africa’s last remaining hunter-gatherer tribes, or encountering Tarangire’s whimsical baobabs and impressive elephant herds. Each destination offers its own unique energy and beauty.
Camps and lodges positioned in prime locations range from authentic traditional mobile canvas to downright luxurious, all providing opportunity for reflection and relaxation between adventures. These are places where understated luxury serves to complete the experience, rather than define it.
“The nature of Tanzania and the openness of its people made this one of our best vacations ever. We especially loved the luxury camping in the Serengeti!”

The Ngorongoro Crater is a UNESCO World Heritage site sheltering an extraordinary concentration of wildlife within its ancient caldera walls. Descending onto the crater floor feels like entering a self-contained world – a veritable Garden of Eden – where lion, elephant, and black rhino share open grasslands and soda lakes. The scenery is as compelling as the wildlife — steep forested crater walls giving way to expansive plains. Often considered a must-do on any Tanzania safari, whether you start here or make it your final stop.
Tarangire National Park is defined by its sturdy towering baobabs and the life-giving Tarangire River, which draws wildlife during the dry season. Elephant herds – some of the largest in East Africa – gather along the banks, while predators stalk antelope and zebra across the plains. With volcanic mountains rising in the distance, the landscape has a powerful, primeval feel. Remote Maasai villages can be found on the fringes of the park, offering an authentic, off-the-beaten-path cultural opportunity. Fewer travel here than the more well-known Ngorongoro Crater and Serengeti, but for those who do, Tarangire rewards with quiet sightings, pretty vistas full of wildlife, and opportunities for nature walks with skilled guides.
The Serengeti is an iconic symbol of Africa — vast, open, and seemingly endless. Its sweeping plains play host annually to the Great Migration, where millions of wildebeest and zebra move in search of fresh grass, pursued by predators. Yet even beyond the migration, the Serengeti offers exceptional year-round wildlife viewing and a profound sense of scale. Days here are marked by golden horizons, dramatic skies, and a remarkable sense of space.
